Richard-Ginori is a company founded in 1737 as Manifattura di Doccia by Marquis Carlo Ginori in Doccia (Florence). It is famous all over the world for its porcelain, whose production is still located in Sesto Fiorentino, despite the merger with the industrial group of the Milanese Augusto Richard, owner of other plants, in 1896, hence the current name.
Of historical and artistic importance is the Richard-Ginori Museum of the Doccia Factory, adjacent to the current factory, which collects the production of the factory since its foundation.
On 11 October 1896 the Società Ceramica Richard merged with the Manifattura dei Marchesi Ginori: it combined its activities with the Doccia factory and the six shops in Florence, Bologna, Turin, Rome and Naples. The famous ceramics company Richard-Ginori was founded.
In the same year of the merger, he created a commemorative service on behalf of Casa Ricordi, immediately after the first performance of Puccini’s Bohème in February 1896.
The Richard’s entrance in Doccia introduced many mechanical innovations in the workshops and strengthened the lithographic decal to reduce the heavy expenses of hand decoration.
In the period 1923-1930 Gio Ponti worked as artistic director at Manifattura Ceramica Richard-Ginori, renewing its range of products.
