GUCCI History
In 1921 Guccio Gucci founded the company of the same name in Florence for the production of leather goods, gloves and suitcases. In 1923, the first trademark of the fashion house bore only the name of the founder in calligraphy, probably derived from his handwriting.
In 1960, Aldo Gucci, one of Guccio’s three sons, designed the symbol with the two crossed “Gs”, a clear reference to the founder’s initials; this graphic sign, which had not yet become the company’s trademark, was re-proposed in different forms: merged in a circle, opposite, inverted and in abstract form. In 1971, the logo was composed in a graceful font, while it was not until 1992, under the artistic direction of Alessandro Michele, that the double “G” symbol officially appeared in the company’s trademark, which until then had only been used as a signature on bags, shoes and belts.
From 1998, official communication was entrusted only to the logotype, composed of a lapidary, widely spaced graffiti font; it is with this brand that the company presents itself to the world as a distinctive expression of “made in Italy”.
Inspired by a motif from the archives of the 1970s – one of the most characteristic periods in the company’s history – the Double G, here embellished with round brilliant-cut diamonds, defines this 18K white gold earring, designed to be worn individually or combined with the other jewels in the collection.
